Many people in the United States and around the world use Arnica Montana for their everyday bumps and bruises, often picking it up a local pharmacy or health food store. If you have this Arnica at home now, you may be wondering why you should purchase and use SinEcch for your upcoming surgery.
The answer is simple:
- SinEcch is the only Arnica Montana on the market proven to reduce bruising and swelling following surgery.
- SinEcch is also the easiest Arnica to take making your recovery process smooth and easy.
We are frequently asked about the difference in these products and it’s crucial to your recovery to understand the difference in the types of Arnica. The most important difference is potency.
While the most common Arnica potencies at the health food store are a 30C and a 12C, SinEcch utilizes a loading dose of 1000C (also referred to on our packaging as a 1M). This high potency is the reason that we are the only Arnica on the market with clinical trials demonstrating efficacy at reducing both bruising and swelling.
The 1M (shorthand for 1000C) Arnica montana refers to the number of times the medication has gone through the homeopathic dilution and succussion process. A 12C has been medicated in this way 12 times; a 1000C, 1000 times. Alpine Pharmaceuticals President and Founder developed the Quinn potentizer that allows us to carefully and accurately create these higher potencies. Additional information on the process can be found here on the website of our respected parent company, Hahnemann Labs – a Homeopathic Pharmacy in business for 27 years: http://www.hahnemannlabs.com/preparation.html.
David Riley, M.D., reinforces the importance of high potency Arnica Montana in his article “Arnica Montana and Homeopathic Dosing Guidelines” from the August 2003 Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, “Homeopathic dosage regimens are significantly different from the regimens of either conventional medications or herbs and dietary supplements. . . Many different postoperative homeopathic dosage regimens appear to be able to be used with safety. The most successful appear to utilize the homeopathic strength that seems to correlate with the degree of trauma experienced by the patient. Efficacy also appears to increase as the strength utilized increases from 6C to 7C to 9C to 12C to 15C to 30C to 200C to 1M (1000C) to 10M (10,000C).The 200C, 1M, and 10M range of strengths are less concentrated than the 6C to 30C range, and from a homeopathic prescribing point of view, they are more appropriate for major surgical procedures involving extensive bruising and swelling, a prolonged recovery, and the need for stronger analgesics.”
Another key element in understanding the difference between the available Arnica products is that you cannot take multiple low potency remedies to equal the effect of a high potency remedy. For example, taking 6 30C medicated pellets does not equal the effectiveness of a 180C. The difference between conventional medications and homeopathic ones is that there is a qualitative, not quantitative, difference with homeopathic preparations. Therefore, only a remedy medicated to a certain potency contains the properties of that strength – you cannot take multiple low potencies to equal it. One way to understand this difference is with the example that taking multiple low potency doses, instead of a high potency dose, would be like attempting to paint a room red with pink paint. No matter how many layers of pink paint you put on the wall, you will never end up with a red room.
Additionally, taking an excessive number of doses of Arnica montana pre-operatively can actually lead to an increased risk of bleeding. SinEcch requires just 1, high potency, pre-operative dose and we have never had a report of increased bleeding.
